Getting Ready

PREPARING FOR YOUR IN-HOME PHOTO SCANNING SESSION

Getting ready for your in-home photo scanning appointment is fast and easy. Just follow these simple steps to maximize the results of your photo scanning session.

GATHER YOUR PHOTOS

The scanning process moves very quickly so it’s important that you have your photos gathered together prior to our arrival. We recommend that you place your stacks of photos together on the kitchen table so the Shoebox Memories Photo Scan Technician can begin work right away.

REMOVE PHOTOS FROM ALBUMS AND FRAMES

This important step will not only speed up the scanning process, but will also ensure that your photos are not damaged. Shoebox Memories Photo Scan Technicians are instructed to not remove your photos from albums, frames or scrapbook pages. Your photos are precious to you and we prefer to let you handle any photo preparation procedures prior to our arrival.

For slide scanning, be sure to remove all slides from the storage carousel prior to our Scan Technician’s arrival. Slides can be stacked together and kept separate from other slide stacks – we’ll make sure to keep them organized so you can easily place them back into the carousels once the scanning is completed.

For document scanning, be sure to remove all documents from their binding, envelopes or covers prior to the scan technicians arrival. All staples, paper clips, etc. must be removed prior to scanning.

CLEAN YOUR PHOTOS

Clean photos means clean images. Any dust or artifacts that exist on your photos will show up on the image once they are scanned. If your photos have been stored in open boxes, we recommend you use a dust cloth to clear off any excess dust and perhaps an air can or just a light blow to clear off any unwanted dust.

STACK LIKE SIZED PHOTOS TOGETHER

The Shoebox Memories Scanner does handle mixed sized photos in a single batch, however the process does move along more quickly if you’ve grouped photos by size. Place your 4×6 photos in one pile, 3×5 photos in another and 8.5×11 photos in another. The Photo Scanner can scan photos up to a maximum width of 8.5 inches wide.
